Video: Eminem Meets Bruno At 2009 MTV Movie Awards

Eminem Meets Bruno

I watched this live, and was confident it was a prank orchestrated by Bruno, without Eminem’s consent. However, the Interwebs have been debating all night/morning about the facts. Was Eminem mic’d? Did the camera pan to him before Bruno descended? How come he didn’t move out of the way?

Vodpod videos no longer available.

My thoughts, given the following facts:

1. Bruno/Borat/Ali G is known for putting people in awkward situations without their consent
2. Eminem loves to dish out insults/make fun of celebs, but doesn’t like being on the receiving end (no pun intended)
3. The reaction from Em, his entourage, and all those surrounding is all too real. The anger in his face does not look like this was a mutually agreed upon stunt
3. This is great promo for Bruno’s movie, but not for Eminem. Why would Em want the “buzz” from the MTV Movie Awards to be about him getting ass in his face, as opposed to killing his stage performance? Esp. with how “pause”-ified hip hop has become in 2009.

If this wasn’t co-signed by Em, it’s quite possibly the best stunt ever, given the victim. Decide for yourself, and weigh in with a comment.

I heard about the stunt and quickly searched YouTube. After one view it was easy for me to see that the entire thing was setup and both parties knew what was going down.

    1. Eminem didn’t duck out of the way or move (as any normal human would when a half naked dude dressed like a bird is slowly descending towards you)
    2. He had a mic on (unless a mic was strategically placed in Bruno’s buttcheeks)
    3. Eminem’s bodyguards didn’t move for 5-6 seconds until Eminem said, “Get this ************ off me.” Any other situation and those guys snap before Bruno even gets close to Eminem. They just sat there. Why would Em wait that long, and why would his bodyguards wait for him to say something?
    4. Em has a great sense of humor, and like they say, any publicity is good publicity. I could totally see Em jumping at a chance to work with someone like Bruno, a character who embarrasses people worse than Eminem ever did.

Good acting, great stunt, but totally, 100% (in my opinion) planned.

    2 things:

    1. No matter if it was staged or not it was funny. “Ich bin Bruno” Haha. I love how he still awards Zac Efron at the end…”Ze vinner ist Zac Efron, High School Musical 3.”

    2. It is a win-win for Cohen; he gets publicity for his film and no matter if its a success or not it fits his whole type of comedy. For Em it is a lose-lose situation; if it is staged then why would he want to be portrayed as the same old homophobe? Is that funny? If it isn’t staged then Cohen just played him like a fiddle and he deserves it. That is funny.

Text message from ten22 to Dizzy: *knows I’m a Stan* “I hope you u r watching the MTV awards”

Dizzy: *still confused why E won’t give Relapse the time it deserves* “Without a doubt. Classic Material. Celebrating by watching Twilight for the seventeenth time later. What happened to Em?”

ten22: He got “treated” as they say in Chicago. It will be all over the internets. On YouTube now.”

Dizzy: *not hip to Chi-City lingo yet* “Treated?”

tenn22: “Punked. Made a fool of etc. etc.”

Dizzy: *Not buying it* “I think it was staged definitely. Free pub”

tenn22: “U think?? He looked so mad”

Dizzy: “I think ems gotta better sense of humor than that. But maybe not. Whatever the case, it’s got the internet going nuts like Paul Wall”

tenn22: “Not only am I privileged to have such an insightful friend such as you, but you are by far the best rapper I know.”

Dizzy: *checks nahright instead of adreamkiller because E’s late on everything*

Ok, after watching a few more times… I think it was staged. Simply for the stoic reaction of the D12 members (aka “bodyguards” as they’re being referenced) until the cameraman had time to pan in on Em.

So, ok, it was staged. Strange to me, but I guess Eminem is now a trending topic on Twitter. And I’m talking about him, which I surely wouldn’t have been otherwise. Still not going to make me buy Relapse…

I am waiting for Relapse 2…already
