Mayer Hawthorne – A Strange Arrangement

How do you do?  Meet Mayer Hawthorne, the most unlikely looking crooner you’ve heard since Susan Boyle.  Big thanks to Seanie Mic for the late pass. I missed all the talk about this guy in late 2008, but the Detroit-born, Stones Throw reppin’ soul singer was just what I needed on Saturday.

This blog was inspired from the moments when life and music bump into each other at curious times.  When I heard “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out”, Hawthorne positioned himself at the top of my playlist. He not only sings on the record, but plays every instrument, and arranges it himself. “Equal parts J.Dilla and Smokey Robinson” would be a bold claim from most, but Hawthorne makes it believable.

Partake.

I love the Rob Dyrdek appearance.

…and the repetitive crooning – what’s the name of this song again?
