Old Soul Ent Presents: Soul Sessions 4 Year Anniversary 11/25/09

The flyer speaks for itself.  I imagine it’s gonna be a night for the ages.  “I’m talking incontrovertible, structural damage, human injury…. real mayhem, basically.”  Ok, maybe not that crazy.  But butts will be moving, and drinks will be flowing.  Continue reading ‘Old Soul Ent Presents: Soul Sessions 4 Year Anniversary 11/25/09’

Pics: Grey Granite Video Shoot For “The Road”

Instant Classic! © ESPN.

Saw this over on the Heavy Gun Blog today, and was mad I didn’t get an invite. I like video shooooots! © John Witherspoon.

Anyhow, these pics lead me to believe the video will be dope. I spot Cool Hand Lex (humping a mic stand), J. Brookinz, MetroGnome and of course Grey.

Head over to Heavy Gun for the rest of the pics.

Battle Royal: Coast to Coast 5/17

I agree with Grey Granite of the Heavy Gunners, this is a cool idea to showcase some of the best DJ talent in Indianapolis.

Dilla Tribute (LIVE from Roots Movements, Indianapolis)

MetroGnome sent over a link to the LIVE Dilla tribute at Jazz Kitchen from last month (which I missed! Lame.). It’s the full set from that night, with both DJ’s MetroGnome and Scott Matelic controlling tunage, along with interviews/commentary mixed in throughout. I love the way this was put together — the interviews really add to the mood & energy of the night. Jay Dee is one of the most influential producers of my lifetime. Like someone said at the tribute night, people appreciate his music and might not even realize it. He’s been behind everything from Slum Villa to Erykah to Busta to Dwele and on and on.

Here’s some snippets from the interview with MetroGnome:

“There’s just something in his [Dilla’s] production, that’s kind of ethereal… kind of magical almost.”

“Locally, DJ Top Speed, people don’t even understand how ill he is. He really is a legend in his own right…. his skill level is far beyond anybody else in the state of Indiana.”

“DJ Scott Matelic,…he’s just so smooth… He makes zero mistakes, ever.”

“I’m not the backspin, gunshot, yell real loud mixtape DJ. That’s not my thing. I want to show some skill level, and show that I put some thought & effort in the mixes.”(see what he’s talking about, download the Future Funk mixtape)

Roots Movements every Wednesday, and look out for DJ MetroGnome’s Certified Classics coming soon!

The Sounds of DJ MetroGnome

So, I finally made it down the street to the Front Page Tavern for Saturday Night Live with DJ MetroGnome…. and glad I did. MetroGnome has been a staple on the Indy music scene (which is evident from the new shirt he was rocking from got SOLE?, courtesy of Mr. Watts)

It didn’t take long to realize I was in the right place. There was almost an hour of straight Dungeon Family. What?!? Classic Goodie, Outkast, Organized Noise production. I’m sold. On top of that, MetroGnome couldn’t be a cooler character. We had small talk about local artists alpha., Rusty, producer J. Brookinz, and the old hip hop magazine he ran with Alex from Ruby Hornet TV fame.

Head over to Ruby Hornet for a recent interview with Metrognome.

You can find him at a new gig with DJ Dicky Fox at Urban Elements on Wednesdays and Front Page on Saturdays.  For a full schedule, check out the DJ MetroGnome myspace page.
